The Quick Key Story
Quick Key is founded by Walter Duncan and Isaac D. Van Wesep, who build the first Quick Key Mobile Grading App for iOS with the help of hundreds of teachers on Kickstarter. Their mission: use cutting edge mobile technology to ensure all students worldwide have access to the benefits of rapid formative assessment, regardless of their access to hardware and Internet.
Quick Key moves on to Android devices. Cameron Ehrlich, one of Walter’s former students now studying Comp Sci at U.C. Berkeley, joins the team to help build the software. Cameron recruits a friend – Paul Deardorff – to help out, too. The garage is a rockin’
Quick Key launches its first paid level of service for teachers called Quick Key Pro. Cameron and Paul build the ability to manage rapid formative assessments and data at the organizational level. Shawn Rosenberger joins the team as Vice President for Sales.
Quick Key begins selling to schools and districts, and adds a student device assessment app – QK 121 – for rapid digital assessment on mobile and Chromebook. The Company hires a full-time professional software engineering team.
Quick Key triples annual revenue and renews 91% of its school and district business. Customers’ state test data confirms that switching to Quick Key made their PLC and RTI processes more efficient and effective, leading to significant measurable gains in learning, student engagement, and test scores. The Company is accepted to Cohort 4 of the TiE Boston Scale Up accelerator.
Arash Danaie joins the team as CTO. Jeff Bennet joins as Senior Software Architect. Julie Niesen joins as Director of Marketing. The Company hires Ben Robinson and his team at Driven Insights as part-time CFO. The Company is invited to a 6-month residency at GSV Labs in Boston.

Spotlight on Quick Key Power Teacher and Vanguard Ambassador Cher Wheeler
My favorite thing about teaching is fostering a love of literature in my students. I love to see them get excited about a great story or poem and hearing their literature discussions energizes me.
I love the formative feedback that is provided instantly with Quick Key’s teacher tools because it helps me quickly address areas of weakness.
Students love getting a score instantly while the information is fresh on their minds, so that they can make corrections and ask questions.
Quick Key is invaluable for both students and teachers!
